Second what Alan said. I recently posted a madly long reply about bricks on Armorama - much too long to reproduce again - that you might find helpful. One thing I missed out was a reminder that the insides of bricks stay the original colour while the outsides weather, so damage will show up pretty clearly (especially if they're yellow). Seems obvious, but you never know ...
