For large areas or hand painting there is a great paint called Fibre Tek. It's a water-based latex that dries extremely flat(or gloss). It comes in small 250ml tubs all the way up to drums. It's the paint of choice in the film industry due to its easy water cleanup. I don't think it's suitable for airbrushing but I have never tried it.They sell to the public and have a street address in Burnaby/Vancouver. The flat orange and brown make a very convincing rust colour, especially. The price is cheap compared to the pittance one gets in a "model" sized jar, I guess that makes it about a 1000% cheaper litre for litre.
they can be reached at 604 294 8116. Tell them someone in the film biz referred you....?
