| Subject: | Spraying pigments - new type of weathering? | |
| Date: | Apr 26, 2008 |
| From: | Paul A. Owen | |
I want to try and spray pigments with my airbrush. I figure this would simulate how mud and dust is actually built up on a real tank. Then I would removed the dust/mud (pigment) with a literally "dry" brush, or a toothpick to make scratches, etc.
I think this will simulate the kind of weathering that a real tank is subjected too... the tank gets muddy/dusty, which kind of sticks to the tank but is rubbed off or blown off. The leftover dust should collect in the corners and around rivets, etc.
Does anyone have any idea as to what type of solvent I should use? It has to dissolve the pigment enough to airbrush well, and it should provide enough adhesion so that the pigment sticks to the model yet should be fragile enough so that I can "dry-brush" the pigment away.
What do you think of my idea?
Has anyone tried this before?
I have pigment form the art store, the brand is "Demco".
