Isopropyl Alcohol as Thinner
I was out of Alcohol the other day a while in the drug store I discovered that bottled Isopropyl Alcohol are not all the same. I found two bottles with different percentages of Alcohol in them, the inert ingredient is water. The then made a little unofficial and un-scientific study at some other drug stores. My findings were you can buy this product with Alcohol percentages from 70% to 99%.
I have not herd mention of this in using Alcohol as thinner for Acrylic paint and am not certain if it makes a noticeable difference in practice. I did notice that Tamiya Thinner seems to be closer to the 99% than the 70%. I have used to 70% Alcohol in Tamiya paint as a thinner and have not noticed a problem.
I also have found that not all Acrylic paints like Alcohol as a thinner. Some Acrylic (craft) paint will congeal when mixed with Alcohol so you want to be cautious. |
