Ok I get asked all the time how I finish my tanks. Most members here know the basics of construction and painting, but here are my guide lines for finishing that I NEVER do:

1. NEVER paint your model one single base color ...shade it!

2. NEVER paint rubber tires BLACK, unless the crew has just detailed it at the car wash!

3. NEVER mix a wash in a jar a spread it over the whole tank! First put clean turpentine on then from a pallet apply you wash in sections as needed.

4.NEVER paint your tarps and figures with clean looking cloth. Make sure they have some weather color on them that was used on the tank. BE SUBTLE in how much you dirty them up too!.

5. NEVER put so many paint chips that it looks as though you put them there! LESS is better than more and use good judgement and NEVER put them on in a pattern.

6. NEVER paint rusted items just rust color! I used shades of green, blue and brown in my rust.

7. NEVER paint metal tools silver or black and just rub silver on them. Go look at your old shovel in your tool shed and if it is silver its is NEW!!!

8. NEVER NEVER NEVER weather your tank then apply bright perfect looking decals!!!!! I flat coat over my decals so they weather along with the tank!

9. NEVER leave items hanging from nothing?????

10. NEVER rush your weathering!

There is no magic product/steps for good weathering. You have to take your time and work all areas and think about what you are trying to show in the wear the tank has been though and what type of terriane its been in. What you want does not come from a bottle or a pigment but from the way you apply your weathering products.

I only use oil paints and pastels for my weathering and some of my weathering starts when I am airbrushing the model.
