I agreed with all ten points and would add this...
The purpose of "weathering" is to change a toy like object into an artistic rendering of the real thing...from the base coat to the final dusting with pastels, the idea is to change this "toy" into the real thing.
As for dry brushing, this is part of the artistic touch to emphasize the model's shape by highlighting the extreme edges of the shape.
While looking at the shovel in the shed, notice what type of soil is clinging to the blade, how recently has it been used, where are the shiny bright worn spots, notice how the worker's hands have affected the handle. Then go look at a Caterpillar tractor working on a construction job. Those in a sandy environment will look very different from those in a loamy soil or on a muddy job, those in the sunny South will be different from those in the North.
Now try to duplicate this with your weathering technique.
The artistic concepts I see on the good armor models is what has attracted me to this venue of our hobby. Now I want to take these skills and apply them to aircraft. |
