Hello

Please, let me clarify some points:

There are:

Acrylic paints (Vinilic based) Vallejo or Lifecolor
Laquer paints (it is not enamel)
ENamel Paints (like humbrol)

Tamiya and Gunze colors is NOT acrilics, but can be mixed with water, alcohol or laquer thinner. The reason WHY Tamiya call to the XF series Acrilics is because they can sell that product to childrens without problems, while if they sell like laquer paints theyt cannot sell to childrens.
But...Tamiya XF is closer to a laquer than acrilic.

The company who produce Tamiya XF colors is the SAME than Gunze colors ones, and in fact there are small variations between both colors.

Tamiya XF must be treated like a Laquer Thinner to get the maximun propierties as paint. In fact, you allmost cannot use Tamiya color with water or alcohol and a BRUSH, but try to do that with Laquer thinner and you will be shock.

In airbrush, the difference is also INCREDIBLE!!!!

Now, about Thinners:

For Tamiya XF you can use Tamiya Laquer thinner, (yellow cap). DON'T USE WHITE CAP THINNER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
But is much better the MR Hobby Laquer thinner.

Of course, the BEST thinner for Tamiya is the GAIANOTES Laquer Thinner, but it is avaialble only in Japan and is really dangerous and toxic, but is 1 million better than Tamiya Yellow cap.

Japanese people know this since long time ago, and my japanese friend was shock when he saw me using Alcohol or Tamiya White Cap!!! Since he recomended me the Gaianotes ones, my modelling life is easier, but we use Gaianotes like pure gold!

All the best

MIG

PS: BTW, Mig Thinner for Wahses is not useful for laquer paints or tamiya XF. It is only for ENamel colors like Humbrol.
