the flouride in many toothpastes can discolor teeth if not be outright poisonous in excessive doses, and whitening compounds are not a lot of fun to eat. all the artificial sweeteners give me migraines, so i'd avoid eating a whole tube for that reason alone.
while i may well be wrong, my understanding of labeling regulations would require latex and acrylic paints to be labeled for safety if the amount in the bottle could cause health problems. the amount in the bottle is the key factor. i would be more concerned about possible heavy meatal compounds used in the pigments than about the carrier medium.
the lacquer thinner i have is mostly benzene, toluol, and methanol, and is labeled with copious warnings and pieces of advice on its proper use.
