Pre-Post Shading: forget post shading! I use preshading by airbrushing seam lines with black or dark brown, depending on the camo. I then apply smooth coats of base color (assuming it is just one color) if you have more than one color in the final camo, then you'll probably do better by masking the areas with different color as you go, otherwise you'll loose the preshading. Remember smooth layers will do.
You can post shade with the same base color and a darker color mixed. Some will just add a different hue (say if your green was dark, then use yellow green in very fine mists to get a difference in color)
