Hi Mike,
sorry to hear those bad experiences with Vallejo-Air. I myself started to use them about 2(+) years ago. After that I switched to prime every kit before finally add VA to it (using Tamiyas primer). As long as I use nozzles above 0.25 mm all works fine for me. I use their "thinner" (which isn't that much thinner than the paint) mixed with destilled water. Finer nozzles/task I find difficult to manage, since the paint clogs the nozzle quite fast. Tamiya or Gunze are much better suited for the finer jobs, imho.
I made the experience that shaking the bottle extremly well before usage is important, as thinner/pigments will seperate easily (esp. after longer pausing...)
All at all I find VA's results convincing, but handling very demanding.
