Hi again.
You need to undercoat with acrylics to use oils, or you'll have to apply them so thickly they'll cover your details!
For armour kits, the best bet is to use oils diluted for washes and then use them for drybrushing/highlighting (not trendy these days, but still useful in places). They are great for making mud and so on because you can put globs of paint on the kit, then move it around.
