Having spent the better part of my life as a M1A1 Tank Commander and Platoon Sergeant I can honestly tell you that the interior is white and the breach is black metal, usual a cast steel. I've seen plenty of WW 2 vehicles to say the same of them. Also just for your own info, the insides of the hatches are never white, they are the color of the outside of the vehicle. I've seen to many really great models with with white hatches and worse yet the eye sore red fire extinguishers on German AFV's. However, and don't you just hate that, there are pics of German very late war AFV's that have the hatches primer red, this was due to lack of paint and time.
