Ruairi,

from being around several US World War II tanks both before and after restoration my experience shows them to all be painted O.D. all around even the bottom. As for primer, my experience has shown them to be primed with red oxide. At least the ones that I have helped sand some of the surfaces. Paul may have other reference for the primer that I don't have.
