If you are inquiring about Red Army issue in WWII. The following should hold
true. The bedroll was actually the Red Army issue great coat. It was rolled
up and secured with whatever was at hand. If serving in the warmer areas the
soldier might have his rain cape (plashch-platka) rolled up. The great coat
was the standard olive green, the rain cape a light olive green ranging to
khaki green with age. The Russian soldier of today is equipped in much the
same Spartan way. Troops are expected to forage for whatever materials are
available to bed down in. This is usually straw, small tree boughs or grass.
Dig a shallow depression in the ground, place the bedding material then
cover with the great coat. |
