Certainly, the moulds look extremely tired. The edges have lost
definition and absolutely nothing in the main hull built up without a
lot of putty. I have gaps almost .030" wide in places and that's after
having to clamp most of the assembly together just to get it to set up
properly. The edges of the parting lines are in the middle of the nearly
2 mm thick material. These parting lines seem to have worn very badly,
to the point where you can't tell where the actual end of the part is.
The additional parts for the AT-5 turret and missiles and the SA-9
turret and missiles aren't so badly worn and the definition is better.
Many of the part surfaces have raised bumps and scratches consistent
with dings in a soft tool material.
I'm suspecting that these moulds might be made of either aluminium or
metal filled epoxy and that would explain their relatively quick
deterioration.
Anyone built the BMP-2D with photoetch? I have one of these to build in
a couple of months and I'd like to know what I'm in for.
