Forums - Modelling / Smallscale |
The construction forum is for the discussion of small scale AFV modelling. Usually this refers to 1-76th and 1-72nd scale AFVs. |

It seems there are 2 things under discussion here. Firstly, the choice of
subject matter. I'll admit I'm slightly disappointed in that so far, but
there's plenty of opportunity for other subjects in the future. As Stephen
suggests, perhaps they are playing it safe to begin with.
The second, and to my mind more important issue, is the quality of the
releases. Again I'm disappointed. The main reason is because I read this
some moths back:
-----
"Utilizing our research and experience from our 1/35 line, we will bring you
the most accurate models ever produced in 1/72 scale."
-----
But we seem to have ended up with some strange model-toy hybrids.
Motorisation holes, clunky details, diecast part gimmicks. It makes a
mockery of the quote. If Dragon wanted to aim at the more casual market then
I have no problem with that - they should just be honest about it to begin
with. I'm with Doug that there are some good bits that can be used for cross
kitting and as spares. But I would have expected a little more than that. I
don't see why we should have lower expectations than the 35th scale lot.
Revell have shown what is possible in this scale and perhaps they should
claim that marketing blurb for themselves...

need to play it safe until they get a name and decide they want to procede
with more? DML with injection molding probably can't take the risk of
$100,000 molds for obscure vehicles that cater to guys like us who like
different stuff. I suspect that they are catering to the majority of
builders and gamers who want a quick nice build for the oh so too common Pz
IV's and Panthers? People they are sure to make money on?

for? I do feel the dissapointment when they advertise that they'll be a
breakthrough and they turn out to less than.
