Hi Doug,

I cut my teeth on ESCI's (in Aurora packaging) 1/72nd scale armor that I
bought from Woolworth's for $.88USD each (leaving me a $.05USD) for candy so
I 'd have the energy to run home. I then began detailing them as far as my
eyes and hands would let me. I actually scratchbuilt the hull of an M113
and was trying ways of making the wheels when ESCI released their kit with
soft plastic figures. Yes, the small scale is seen as something for younger
modelers and those with space limitations.

I stepped up to 1/35th scale because of the ability to render details and
that the aftermarket was growing.

I fully respect the smaller scale and many of my friends, such as Miguel
Jimenez and Steve J. Zaloga, also built small scale. Actually Steve wrote
many of the articles in IPMS/USA's Journal that I used in those early years.
Have you seen the latest diorama of his V-2 launch site?

I think Till has it right. Give DML some time to release a completely new
plastic kit (as opposed to use what they have available). After buying the
house next year, who knows? I may join your ranks again! After all, the
aftermarket is there finally!

Regards,
Saul Garcia
