The wheels on the early T-54 and T-55 tanks are similar to, but not the same as, World War II T-34/85 "spiderweb" wheels. Early T-54 tanks also had rubber tires on the front idler wheels with the early roadwheels. Early tanks also had rectangular, welded fuel tanks and a second ZIP box on the front right fender instead of a tank.

Later T-55 tanks have the commonly known "starfish" wheels, which were introduced in the early 1950s.
