A good point. I did not say it never happened. What I argue is that in era photos it seems to be a rare occurance, and that the phenomenon should not be used as a measure of a models accuracy.
I do not think it rained much in Libya or Ukraine during the summer, though so many trucks modeled in this theatre seem to have the masked windshields. Then again, perhaps all these 8th Army and Afrika Korps guys went to IPMS shows before the war and figured this is what their windshield were required to look like? :-}
