Hi Mike,
Oven cleaner is the best I have found for removing old paint. The foaming
kind works nicely as it stays where you spray it and doesn't run off as
much. Spray it on and leave it for half an hour or so then srcub with an old
toothbrush (make sure you wear rubber gloves and have adequate ventilation
as the stuff is rather nasty). You may have to repeat this several times
especially with such old paint.
As far as I know nothing will remove glue I'm afraid. Both tube and liquid
cement melt the plastic slighty and fuse it together. If the bond is poor
you may be able to pry the pieces apart with a hobby knife but then you run
the risk of damaging the plastic.
Hope that's of some use to you.
Cheers,
Andy

> Hey guys,
> I have a query I hope someone can help with. I have an old 1/72 Esci
Hummel model that I built many years ago. I was thinking of redoing it with
more detail, better paint job etc, as I can no longer find this model on the
market. I built it in my "pre-airbrush" days, so I painted it with a rather
thick coat of Humbrol enamel paint. I wish to remove this paint, along with
the decals, to redo it. My question is what is the best way to remove this
15 year old paint, and also the old tube glue that I used? Should I use
turpentine, or is there a specific product on the market for this? I really
do not want to damage the plastic. I also don't want to ditch this model as
I feel it has a lot of potential, with aftermarket parts (as well as
representing a good challenge for me!). Any help or suggestions will be
appreciated.
