The construction forum is for the discussion of small scale AFV modelling. Usually this refers to 1-76th and 1-72nd scale AFVs.

Thanks a lot for the comprehensive reply. Some of this I was familiar with, but a lot was new. Sorting out these truck kits is almost as complex as sorting out all the incarnations of the old ESCI models!

I definitely see the need for a special article on modeling modern Soviet trucks in 1/72nd. Based on the info I already had, and that included in your message, I've begun cataloguing the available kits, and mapping out relationships between them and their manufacturers. As you say, it's fairly confusing at first, but I think that once I get it all down on paper, it should sort itself out.

Hopefully this weekend I'll be able to post a draft article on these trucks, and I'd appreciate it if you could take a look at it once it's up to see if I've made any errors.

Oh, and I definitely share your desire for truck crews, but not just for Soviet. Finding decent truck drivers is tough for almost every nationality and time period. Maybe we can convert some German infantry, since they are a dime a dozen.
