Yes people have reported this many times, however others including myself haven't had a problem.

I suspect the problem originates in not taking enough care putting the track together, mine were slightly tight but fitted OK with gentle persuasion and some Tamiya tape to hold things together whilst the glue (Tamiya Extra Thin Cement) was setting.

Tricky? Yes.

Too short? No if extra care is taken.
