I am in the ANG, and there is an Army Guard motor pool nearby. I've seen M998 Humvees parked side-by-side with both new and old tread pattern tires. The tires can npt be mixed on one vehicle. The "aggressive" tread tires are a radial, and the "original" tread pattern tires are bias ply. All "new build" Humvees, regardless of type, have the new tread pattern and wheels. The Army guard received a shipment of brand new M998A2 vehicles, and all had the new pattern. All older Humvees, when in need of all four new tires, will get the new wheels and tires. On the subject of tire bulge, you will rarely see a Humvee with a noticable bulge. The tires are not designed that way. Hope this info helps some of you out!
