I tend to agree with you. Unless some good reference comes up i think it was an attempt at something new and interesting, but based on poor science and history. Fine Scale Modeler has a problem with giving review models to reviewers that know little or nothing about the subject. I have more than once heard comments like: "I always build aircraft but I wanted to see if I could do a quick tank build..." or "I wanted a quick build without having to do research so I decided to try a smallscale tank..."
This builder of the Kingtiger however is a competent builder and no novice. The tank finish is quite nice. A few Revell track links are crooked but I have suffered from that myself.
