Like the others mentioned, the link and length tracks I've used are very inconsistent. Some go on perfectly according to plan, others . . . not so much.

As for the Panther kit, it's been a while since I built one, but if I recall correctly, I do have a faint memory of experiencing the same problem you had. Have you measured the distance between the front and rear axles? Perhaps they are slightly different on one side. The only other explanation I can think of is perhaps the join between each individual link is inconsistent, like maybe you fit the links together tighter on one side than the other.

The only thing for certain is that you should feel lucky that your discrepancy was for a complete link. What I hate most is when I am a HALF link too short! Another common problem I have is when I am a link too short on a Soviet T-34, so that I end up having two links with guide teeth adjacent to each other. At least the Panther links are all identical, so that nobody will notice the problem unless they actually count the links.
