| Subject: | Too Many 1/72nd Humvees? | |

I see that Dragon has just announced the production of their third set of Humvee variants. I believe that they also have another two or three sets in their future line-up.
Isn't this a little over-kill?
Consider my own situation: when ARMO was the only company to produce the Humvee in 1/72nd scale, I bought two of their kits (in resin). They are remarkably detailed models, and compare very favorably with the newest batch of plastic kits.
When MW Models released their plastic kits, I also bought two different versions of those. True, they are limited-run kits, but I still think that the constant criticism they receive these days when compared to the newer kits is a little unwarranted.
Then Revell released their Humvees, which came two per box. So I then had six Humvee kits. (Which rose to eight, when Revell sent me a box of review items for On The Way, which included another set of two Humvees.)
And finally, Dragon has entered the market, also selling two models per box. I bought a set of their first release, because they are the best Humvees on the market today. So that means that I currently own ten models of various versions of the Humvee. Isn't that a little insane?
As I mentioned, Dragon now has another two versions of the Humvee on the market, which are also sold two in a box, so if I wanted those kits too, I'd end up with 14 Humvees! Plus another two or three versions in the future? That's 20 kits!
The bottom line is that I'm not buying any more of the new Dragon Humvees beyond the single box that I already have. Although I am sure that my situation is not typical of most modelers, I wonder if others will eventually say "enough is enough" and soon the hobby shop shelves will be stacked high with unsold Humvee kits, which will end up hurting everyone involved.
I wonder if Dragon would have been better off marketing only a single box of Humvees that included all the optional parts to build two of any of the possible variants? I think it's always better business practice to leave your customers always wanting more instead of being overwhelmed with products that they end up not buying.
