Forums - Modelling / Smallscale

The construction forum is for the discussion of small scale AFV modelling. Usually this refers to 1-76th and 1-72nd scale AFVs.

Hi Saśl,
Actually, I think "offensive" was a poor choice of words. I like Michael's choice of "patronizing" as a much better description of how I perceive it. And you also have it correct in that it all depends on the context in which you first heard it. Mine wasn't quite so positive as yours. (I hadn't realized that the phrase had been around as long as it has, based on your story.)

But also, like so many other things in life, it also depends on who is using the phrase at the time, as to whether or not it's being used as an insult, and I know that you weren't using it that way.

I'd like to mention something to Paul in response to his earlier note concerning the perceived need for the small scale forum. I don't see this forum as being intended to replace the others such as Painting, Construction, Research, etc., but rather as an alternate to the Kits forum only. Normally, if someone posts a question such as "What it the best Sherman kit available?", he's automatically assumed to be talking about 1/35th scale, unless specified otherwise. Having our own forum for small scale eliminates the need for everyone to indicate which scale they are referring to, which the large scale modelers rarely, if ever do.

It's just nice to have a home :-)

-Doug
