Doyle's drawings in the Jentz Panzer Tracts (PT) book have the fenders with treadplate. The few pictures in that book, while nice and clear, don't confirm or deny the treadplate on the fenders. I assume there is treadplate, since the Berge-Elefant seems to have foolowed the same production adn upgrade schedule as the other 90 Ferdinand/Elefant vehicles. FWIW, the fedners are segmented, about

As for zimmerit, I assume, based on the text in the Jentz PT book that they went through the same process as the Ferdinand did when they were rebuilt into the Elefant. The Panzer Tracts book explicitly states that they received a zimmerit coating during the March 1944 re-build program. However, the caption for one "in use" photo gives a date of Summer 1944, location Eastern Front. There's almost no zimmerit on that vehicle that I can see. FWIW, the 1944 rebuild is also when the roof-mounted MG was added on at least one vehicle.
