No question here, just conversation.

It has been about 20 years or so since I seriously worked on an armor kit. Of course I was a big 1/35th scale fan back in the early 80's. Since then I have been a very serious Railroad Prototype Modeler and still am, but I am getting very interested again in WWII armor.

My favorite tank is the early M4 Shermans. Yesterday I finally took the plunge and bought my first kit. I picked up a DML/Dragon M4A1 Sherman. I was very pleased when I opened the kit to see the quality. Very nice indeed! I have decided to try and build the same M4A1 that I last started and did not finish in 1/35th scale (it is still waiting for me). It is a 1st Armored Division M4A1. It is an early M4A1 with M34 gun mount. Coax machine gun has the shield. Turret has aplique armor on right side. Cast hull with aplique armor on both sides and bolted transmission cover. Tracks are steel cleat design. I have a photo of this specific tank in the soft cover book named GROUND POWER The M4 Sherman Tank (1), 1996 volume 12.

I am going to have to kitbash this model using two DML/Dragon kits and possible the road wheels from an Eduard kit. I need the open cast road wheels so if the DML/Dragon kit #7311 I just ordered has these wheels, then I will not need them from the Eduard kit. I ordered the DML/Dragon kit #7311 to get the bolted transmission housing and the turret with the M34 gun mount.

As I build this kit I will put up photos and an article on my web site at http://www.6axlepwr.com/. I'll put up a speicial ARMOR MODELING page.

I am very happy and excited to get started on this kitbash.

Brian
