Hello, all,

Although I normally built 1/35 scale armor, I will buy a nice 1/48 scale or 1/72 scale kit if it is nice. I picked up the Trumpeter JS-III today and had my initial delight brought down a notch or two. Yes, the kit has both nice wheels with length and link treads and a separate set of completed track runs to which you add more of the road wheels and drivers. Both look very nice and the overall detail is good! But the hatches are all molded closed. This makes me really angry. I want to show the vehicle with figures...or at least a commander...to show its bulk and size. Now I have some very nice Preiser Russians! But the hatches...Driver's, commander's and gunner's are all molded closed.

I have managed to gently scribe down along the very prominent lines between the commanders hatch and the turret roof, so I will get at least one hatch open. But it really would be nice if the main hatches on various 1/72 scale kits were all open with separate hatch covers! I hope others feel this way, and I hope the model companies will start to do this. Come on DML, Trumpeter, Italeri, Hobby Boss....open up!

Cheers,
Richard Isner
