My method of assembling link and length tracks is to assemble the idlers, sprockets and roadwheels, leave to them to enable the joins to achieve full strength (overnight). I paint these parts and the tracks while they are on the spue and touch up any flaws resulting from part clean up after assembly.
I then remove the paint from the mating surfaces of tracks, roadwheels, etc. This is usually a relatively small area on roadwheels but around 50% of idlers and sprockets.
When the tracks have been attached, I place a large red rubber band (used by Australia Post when delivering several items) around the tracks while the cemented plastic is in the process of setting. The tension provided by the rubber band ensures that the tracks fit snugly and evenly. Gary Zimmer, a fellow member of the Armour Modellers Association (Australia) developed the rubber band technique.
Finally, touch up any flaws in the paint and weather as desired.

Of course, must be at full strength. |
