Forums - Modelling / Smallscale

The construction forum is for the discussion of small scale AFV modelling. Usually this refers to 1-76th and 1-72nd scale AFVs.

AMPS 2003 in Aberdeen MD was another success!

Overall small scale items were not boutiful but I was able to pick up:
MIG Tiger 1 set with engine and new hatches,
Eduard brass for M4A1, Leopard 2A4
Revell Warrior and T-80BV kits (and a Bradley thanks to Chris Ekstrom).
The ExtraTech Achiles was avaialble though at $32 was out of my price range.
One dealer had several MAC German heavy cars but at $22 were overpriced.

The show/display was great. Some of the best small scale I have seen. I particularly recall very well done 1/87 M-26 and M45 tanks; a superb 1/72 MR Models composite Sherman; and lots others. Several of us took many photos and Doug Chaltry has already asked me to post them at On The Way.

The contest part is about the fairest I know of. For those unfamilier with AMPS judging, rather than giving a 1st - 4th in a group like IPMS, each model is judged individually by a team of four and given points based on construction & finish. Up to 10 points all together for hull, turret or interior, running gear, markings, etc. All the points are added up, the lowest single score dropped, then the remaining three added together for a high possible total of 30. To even out, you can enter in Basic, Intermediate, or Advanced: with more stringent judging for each higher level. This allows a beginner to get deserving medal without a perfect model expected pout of an Advanced.

I travelled 9 hour drive from Maine, and there were others from Canada and the UK. I encourage anyone to attend if possible next year. Get to meet many of the people posting on the web!

Stephen
