Forums - Modelling / Smallscale

The construction forum is for the discussion of small scale AFV modelling. Usually this refers to 1-76th and 1-72nd scale AFVs.

1/72 certainly offers the widest variety of new kits produced with the latest engineering and standards. I mean if you were to compare a new 1/72 Revell Challenger with an old 1/76 Matchbox or Airfix kit you would find a world of improvement in the new Revell. I belive that Fujimi has a few new kits such as their Tiger I and Tiger II which are great molds.

Though there is some good resin in 1/76 (Ostmodels, Milicast, etc.), the larger 1/72 seems to again offer the widest variety in manufacturers and good quality (MarS, AlBy, Modelkrak, FSF, LEVA, etc.). If you are into etched brass for extra detailing than 1/72 is the only small-scale I know producing significant amounts of brass parts (Extra-Tech, PART, Eduard).

I prefer 1/72 because of the little larger size for adding details and good figures available (80% of what I build), but do not shun 1/76 (15%). [The other 5% is big stuff]
