The progess in computer industry in the past decade dwarfed any other industry. What drive the progress of the PC? Do customers really need a multi core cpu, multi bus, super fast comp running at 3G?
It is the same in model industry, or any other industry.
I would say there are 4 main factors
1. competition
2. customer feedback (the web does facilitate it)
3. New technologies (computerised tooling, CAD, new materials)
4. Huge productivity at low cost
But how important is each factor contribute to such a progress is an interesting question.
