My basic take on it is the model companies have evolved better kits because the modellers have evolved wanting more accuracy in their subjects. Lets face facts, most young people today cant be bothered building models when video games promote instant gratification, models require work and time to reap the benifits. Case in point my son who started a snap car kit then said it was too much work, and hasnt even thought of finishing it. Granted hes only 7, but the pc could get a game going right away for him. Now when I was his age and there werent pc's or game stations, I was in a modelling frenzy daily. This hobby, especially AFV's, is more the realm of the mature hobbyist who doesnt want his models looking like toys but miniature representations of real vehicles. So the quality of a kit when we were kids just wont satisfy us now, we want more and better realism and can now afford kits that offer what we want. While I do see everyones points presented on this subject, I do think it boils down to the fact that the model companies know they have to cater to us vetran modellers whos tastes have, shall we say, matured. We take the time to research our subject and strive to make everything just right. Therefore whoever presents the best detailed, most accurate model will indeed win our purchase.

Model on,
Clair
