| That's right, he uses Holbein gouache, both brush and pen, as I recall. His style has loosened a fair bit over the years to a 'casualness of mark' I really like, no doubt to his choice of materials and of course the need to meet a deadline. Much of Ron's wardrobe, although some is original, is composed of high-quality reproductions (and when I say high, I mean right down to the stamps and tags on the articles). That includes helmets and some of the kit and webbing as well. I'm sure you understand that these are props, and as such need to be durable (65-year old stitching is often not), as well as inexpensive (when an original German Black Tanker's uniform can easily fetch $10-15,000 in the collector's market). Despite his militaria collection it's his reference library that's really impressive, and beyond that, his hospitality. |
