They've come a long way, baby....
Mr. Owen brings up a valid point, and to further reinforces the notion that we wouldn't have a Comet if the resin industry didn't exist. Derek Hansen is a fanatic for detail and he's top notch with customer service, so there's little excuse not to take a plunge. For the price of two or three "another Shermans" or Pz IVs you can fill that void in your collection and have fun at the same time. I have a number of resin kits, and a number of AA kits, I really treasure my AA kits.
Sure plastic is easier to build, but how many times has a plastic kit come out and you're compelled to get the "accurizing" sets from the resin aftermarket folks? A lot of guys thought AA got screwed when the Challenger II was kitted first in plastic by Trumpeter, but they offered those accurizing sets in resin later on so you would have been better off cash-wise to get the AA Challenger II in the first place. Sure, the Tamiya kit is superior now, but how many years back could you have filled that void with the AA kit?
Modelling Madness had the MSRP of the new Italeri AB-41 kit as $45 USD which is what I paid for the ADV?Azimut model when someone sold their collection to my local shop. Granted, I was lucky to get there first and not every shop does this, but the Italeri kit's price is a lot of cash (yes, I'll get one to match my Cri el and ADV kits as well).
I think part of the dilemma stems from the fact that we see a lot of stuff coming out in plastic that we couldn't dream of oh so long ago. This, coupled with the fact that two manufacturers are offering two new Tiger I kits (not to mention the redone Tiger II and 251 halftrack, et al) has many of those wanting a Comet wondering "hey, what about us?" |
