Subject:  Re: Resin Kit DislikeList thread.

I can't say I dislike resin kits as such. What puts me off however is price.I'd like to see what I'm getting for that kind of money.I dont own any tools that can remove some of the huge pour plugs many kits have on them, not without using hand tools and taking many, many hours to seperate them.
Many hobby shops just can't keep these kits in stock for examination.
If I get a kit sight unseen, will the task of getting the kit ready to assemble suck the joy out of the fun of building it?
There is a certain satisfaction in building a multi media kit,but I do wish that the manufacturers could remove the larger plugs before bagging and boxing.
We've all read great reviews and build articles on resin kits where often it is mentioned that the instructions are seriously lacking. The end result model looks splendid and mighty tempting, but I confess I am left worrying whether I could do justice to some of them without the significant and costly technical resources many of them seem to require.
Obviously a resin kit is not, by its very nature a "weekend build".
I'm willing to put the time in,as long as it is satisfying time, not time correcting major flaws or damage from poor design.
Some companys have excellent quality control , for others it is non-existant.
I have been able to pick up some resin conversion kits for very cheap closeout prices. The extra work was off set by the fact that I got the kit for a song and a dance.Had I paid top dollar I would have been somewhat dissapointed.
Resin kits are a great boon to the hobby by filling in vehicle gaps, where the big plastic companies can not or will not tread.
The Eastern European companies have put out many plastic kits that Tamiya et al have not bothered to produce, and while the detail or quality may not be 100%, the prices offset my complaints, excepting of course the hiddeous Zvezda T-60,a crap festival even if given away.
So for me it comes down to price hesitation.
That's my rant...
