I personally like resin, but I can understand people steering clear of it.

1. Quality varies wildly. There's Hobby Fan stuff that falls together the same way Tamiya plastic does, and then there's Legand and Accurate Armour where you have to deal with the occasional warpage, air bubble, or part broken in transit and waaay down the list there are tiny or obscure manufacturers who have trouble getting decent quality resin, where warped is the norm for parts, where the resin on a major surface is as thin as tissue paper (or where there's a big hole), and where preparing the parts for assembly takes ages, you still end up having to use vast amounts of putty to get the bits to actually fit together.

2. Price. I'm willing to pay more for a good resin kit, especially if it's of a subject I really want, but the dollar exchange rate has put paid to that and there don't seem to be many US resin manufacturers who put out full kits. I bought a lot of AA stuff when the exchange rate was more favorable, but right now the weakness of the dollar makes most of their stuff just too expensive. Even at normal prices, I can get something like a new-tool Dragon kit, individual link metal tracks, Aber photo-etch and barrel and Moskit exhausts for less than a resin kit. Sometimes you'd rather build a great model of a boring subject rather than merely a good model of a rarity.

3. Aftermarket. While some manufacturers give you everything you need, in many cases all you'll get is what's in the box, anything you want refined or improved, you have to build yourself. Easy for some things, more difficult for stuff like engine grilles.

4. Reference material. Not intrinsically a problem with resin kits, more one with the fact that if you've bought a resin kit, chances are the subject is obscure, which makes finding reference material difficult. I know some people enjoy the researching aspect as much as the building, but sometimes all you want are a few good detail photos, which can be very hard to find.
