Paul most of the time I agree with you, but this time I've got to take exception to that last broad sweeping statement of what makes modeling fun.

I recollect having fun building P-40s and painting them orange when I was 12. I'm hoping that there are millions of kids still out there having that kind of fun. Making exact replica's is YOUR idea of fun. I enjoy out-of-the-box every bit as much as rivet counting and I know bunches of other modelers who do as well. Ease up. Rant over

New rant.
However, this whole deal about the 4E is making me puke! I can't ever recall when any one kit has gone through the scrutiny that this one release has. God forbid anyone should hold Tamiya up to this scrutiny! Yes DML hyped the bejesus out of this kit. But they delivered, for chrissake. The said they would build the most accurate 4E model ever made and that is what they did. Does anyone out there in analville disagree?

Where the hell was all this great Japanese research and angst when other less than perfect kits have been released? So what if this kit has some issues? Especially if none of those issues is a deal killer? When people from around the world are debating the number of track links in contact with the earth at any given time ... it's a hobby for god's sake! Buld the damn thing and post your fix list. How hard is that?

As for those who whine that DML may get offended and quit releasing upgrades and new kits... REALITY CHECK!!!! DML is a business, they're already injecting plastic for next year's kits. They will survive. Besides they're getting great free publicity from all the yahoos on the net constantly yipping over this one kit.

Part of this problem stems from the anonimity of the web. You have already seen DML people lurking and posting under false names. It doesn't take a lot of imagination to make the leap that DML's competitors may be doing the same thing. It does appear that there are a lot of axes being ground right now.

I don't have this kit, but I will soon. I won't comment on it, because I happen to beleive that every single panzer 4 was not built from a cookie cutter. Therefore two sets of measurements is probably not indicative of every tank. That's not what research says, that's what common sense says. The most that can be achieved is an approximation. ARRRGGGGGGG. Oh well I'll live with it.

The only thing to do now is to build the kit the way you want to and drive a spike through this entire issue. Rant complete!
