Subject:  Re: Why are we nit picking the DML Pz. IV E?List thread.

I agree with Saul's first posting, nicely put. I am also saddened that a modeller has been put off further postings elsewhere due to comments made against him. I for one feel grateful that someone wished to share his careful research with the rest of us.

I don't think the point is that people are criticising DML. From my readings, people are looking at a very well researched and produced model, and are applying a similar high level of critique to raise the bar a little higher. If the kit were not a masterpiece maybe they wouldn't feel the need to go into such detail to make it even better.

What is most upsetting is that people are making nasty, personal, thoughtless comments about modellers who may just have different standards or priorities than themselves. This forum and others have rules regarding how to post, so we should pay attention to them. There is no reason to insult someone who has not been insulting to start with (if there could be any reason to insult them). I think, due to the anonimity of the web people feel able to personalise their comments in a way they wouldn't face to face. I think everyone should take a breath and think of how someone will feel about any comments made. If those who have very high standards insult those who just want to enjoy simple modelling, yes, then we need to make them aware that that's not acceptible either. But not by insulting them back, you lose any moral high ground that way and make your comments worthless.

Maybe some people make insulting comments thinking they are just being "funny" and don't intend to hurt. In that case an apology should be enough. But I for one don't think humiliating others is in any way funny and there should be no place for it on any modelling site.

Just my 126th of a Guineas worth.
