I would not get overly worked up over it. There are several good ways for a family to deal with "the stash":

1. Assuming that this is kosher with the sig. other, actaully take a look at the stuff with them. In a general way, much like general car maintenance, look at the stuff and let them get a fair idea of the value both to you and in $$$.

2. If you pass on, there are many reputable and fair services to sell those kits off, from the LHS to eBay re-sellers. Club members can be a tremendous help as well, making clubs more than just a "club" and also a resource. (Serious selling point to help get club membership up).

3. Finally, leaving a stach of things you loved to work with, and the references, is something of a legacy for the family to remember you as they go through it and sell it off. I personally like to think of all the memories my children already have tied into my hobby and what that will mean to them when I pass on and all my stuff is for them to go through.

Of course, this does not really hlep anyone who is dealing with divorce or who has to move (I have moved the mountain so to speak...it ain't a blast, but man, it is like x-mas when you get to open all those boxes with kits in them! :) )
