Interesting thread. However, can I point out that Tamiya were the originals in 1/35 (as many have noted) and spurred on the current revolution with these re-tools:

Tiger I
Jagdpanther
Tiger II
StuG III
Panzer IV H & J
Panzer III
Schwimmwagen, Jeep and Kubelwagen

How many of us have at least a few of these and didn't drool over the kit upon opening?

Dragon Wagon
Sturmtiger
FAMO & Trailer
Wespe
Marder IIIM
Marder III 76.2
GMC Truck
M8/M20 armored car
T-55 Soviet MBT

Great point about their not capitalizing on existing sprues (leFH18 from Wespe, SdKfz 232 upgrades, Pz 38(t) hull, etc.)
