This is the “Modelling Military Vehicles” special issue, best of the
year for the armour modeller. In it you’ll find the following articles :

- a 7 page1/35 construction article by Steve Zaloga entitled “A Tunisian
M5”. The author does his usual sterling job, this time tranforming
Tamiya’s “ugly duckling” M5A1 into a “beautiful swan” M5 ;-) Good photos
of the model during and after construction (some of the later with great
Photoshop computer special effects) plus TM viws; line drawings,
reference photos, the works...

- a 5 page1/76 diorama by Dr. Gerhard J. Mohr entitled “Fitzcarraldo”
featurind a StuG III (Aifix/Fujimi/Matchbox/Milicast kitbash) and a FAMO
(Milicast) towing a boat. Looks good and very different!

- a 6 page1/35 construction article by Jim Hensley, who builds
Commander’s “Little Willie” WWI “tank” prototype. Great article, lots of
tips and nice line drawings.

- in the “modelling on a budget” series, Nigel Norfolk describes in 6
pages how to update an 1/35 Italeri Horch for under £15. Detailed step
by step building, using the Eduard PE set and some homemade
improvements.

- a two page 1/76 diorama article by Neil Hewlett “The Road to Dunkirk”.
Not a lot of detail on building the vehicles (only two pages for the
whole article) which include an Airfix Matilda II, Airfix Quad and 25
pounder gun, Matchbox Dingo scout car, SHQ Dragon and 2 pounder gun
(white metal), JB Models Mark VI light tank.

- a 5 page1/35 construction article by John Prigent on converting the
Tamiya Cromwell into an ARV using the Accurate Armour conversion.
Another great article, useful tips and TM drawings.

- the next 3 page article is also an Accurate Armour conversion to make
an ARV, this time a VT-34 based on the Dragon T-34/85. The article by
Robin Buckland is well written and informative but IMVHO the weathering
job just doesn’t cut it. Mind you this is textbook weathering but this
textbook was published in the mid-seventies, bypassing Shep Paine,
Verlinden, Tony Greenland and Makoto Taikashi to name a few... Different
strokes for different folks I suppose...

- a jumbo 9 page article from Phil Dyer follows. I always look forward
to article by this author which are crammed with good tips on how to
accurize kits, line drawings and excellent period photographs. This one
doesn’t disapoint. It’s about how to improve Dragon “Hybrid Firefly”.

- A 6 page 1/35 article from Spanish modellers Mandu (construction) and
Miguel Jimenez Mig (painting and weathering). The subject is an Hetzer
captured by Polish insurgents in Warsaw. Mandu does a great job
building and detailing the kit (including MK tracks, turned barrel,
photo-etch, etc...). I’m less convinced by MIG’s job, who to me looks
like painting/weathering experiments gone wrong. He goes in great detail
to explain his techniques tough, but in the end the result looks
disapointing as if all his individual techniques didn’t come (blend in)
together. Just my very humble opinion of course, others will find this
model fantastic.

- A (too short) 5 page 1/35 diorama article by David Parker, with a
Tamiya FAMO converted to a late model with the Cromwell set (which he
mastered). David also explained how he mastered the tarps (also
available from Cromwell Models), very interesting. The converted
figures, paint job, weathering are all first rate. I WISH WE GOT MORE
ARTICLES FROM THIS AUTHOR, KEN JONES IF YOU READ THIS PLEASE TAKE NOTE.
Shall I circulate a petition ? ;-)

- A 6 page 1/35 article by Cookie Sewell entitled “Astrov’s children”.
he models the T-38, T-30 and T-60 but the main focus on the T-70M, he
complety rebuilds Techmod’s very flawed kit (new hull and turret). A set
of 1/35 line draqings on the T-70 model 1942 from Steve Zaloga is also
included.

- A 8 page article “Detail a Demag” from Mario Eens, is just that, a
great in depth article on how to improve Revell’s kit. Again FIRST RATE
stuff...

- Last but not least a 3 page 1/35 construction article by John Prigent
who builds the Sovereign 2000 resin and white metal Pz III Ausf A. Sadly
this competent article is badly let down by terribly reproduced photos
(fuzzy and pale) who don’t do the model justice.

As previous “Modelling Military Vehicles” special issues this is a must
have. Get it while you can!!!!

Cheers,

Christophe
