My best tip.
Drybrush first and then do the wash on your model. I know this is backwards from what everyone else has written. You get two benefits. First, by washing after drybrushing, you blend in the drybrushing and get a more natural look. Second, you don't need to be all that careful with your drybrushing so it's a lot quicker. I drybrush a whole Sherman in under and hour and the washing takes about 30 minutes.
If you try this, be sure to lighten your drybrush color about two shades. Usually, I'll wash with raw umber oil paint mixed with oil paint thinner (cheap and available where ever oil paints are sold) because it doesn't affect the base coats.
