| Subject: | Pro built means NOTHING | |
| Date: | Jan 17, 2006 |
| From: | Glenn Gerson | |
I love Robert's comment: "I generally expect models advertised on Ebay as 'pro-built' to be poorly constructed and painted with improbable markings and a dodgy base. But my expectations are low...."
I've been wanting to pose the same question as to what "pro built means but once I recognized that it means NOTHING then I dropped the idea.
And it does mean nothing. Look carefully at most of the pictures the seller posts. You can see the shoddy, fast build time workmanship. Cripes, the best (?) "pro built" I saw was from a seller in Singapore selling a M8A1 cargo tractor that was built with the wrong drive sprockets and wrong tracks. Sent a query regarding the inaccuracies and amazingly enough didn't get a response back.
This concept of "pro built" is at best cr*p and another way of grabbing a fast buck. 95% of the models posted on T-L are better built then the junk on e-bay.
Then while we're at it, let's talk shipping:
"Each model is carefully packaged but some small items may fall or break off resulting in the buyer performing minor repairs."
Huh?
Gentlemen, there isn't one of any of our models that even the BEST packer could pack and not have UPS, Fed Ex, or the post office destroy in transit no matter how many Handle with Care stickers were plastered to the box. Like what are these builders adhering those little add on do-dads on with? Epoxy? Like an antenna is going to stand up to 3000 miles of shipment and handling. I have a hard enough time getting my models the 500 miles to AMPS in one piece - and I "road test" them for breakage prior to leaving. You know, model on the car floor, bumpy roads at 60 mph.......................... If a piece falls off it's not meant to be..........
I'm still waiting for one of these purchased "pro builts" to appear at a model show with the new owner claiming responsibility for the build. |
