| Subject: | Verlinden resin, etc | |
| Date: | Apr 5, 2006 |

Hi there Steve, here is some information from someone in the business.
The reason you get a reaction to the Verlinden resin is due to the fact that Verlinden resin contains a small trace of cyanide. Yes, that Cyanide. It is a high grade, industrial type resin used in auto parts, industrial applications, etc. I really do not like the stuff, it gave me headaches when I used it in the past. I sold every single Verlinden piece I had because of this.
If you notice, Verlinden resin smells a lot more than other regular resins, that is the cyanide base you are smelling. If you have also noticed, some Verlinden resin buildings are very warped when you take them out of the box. This is due to the fact that the resin they use produces an extremely high amount of heat during the curing process.
Most new small manufacturers like Formations, CMD, Tiger Model Designs, Alpine Miniatures, Tiger Werke, Think One Eighty Studios, Monroe Perdue Designs, etc use Smooth On resin from PA (Smooth Cast 320, or 321), or resin from Vagabond Corporation in CA (Odorless White, or 2C Slow, with coloring pigments). All of these resins mentioned capture excellent detail and are also odorless. They are high quality, low, to medium heat, state of the art resins, and are more like a plastic ABS, or a strong hard Styrene.
Hope this information has been of use to all of you.
Cheers,
Jose. T. Rodriguez |
