Modeling and dioramas in particular are the recreation of a historical setting in miniature. Dioramas define small or large scale representations of major battles or the simple personal strugle of a small cast.

Blood, gore and suffering happen in a war and I think we are missing the point when we claim to be offended by it in modeling. Models are meant to recreate a certain vehicle and dioramas do the same. It is hyprocritical to judge the artistic message of the modeler as inappropriate when film, another craft and art form is lauded for its honest portrayals in the films you mentioned.

I fail to see what is offensive in the least. Are we under any illusion as to what the men, the machines were trained and designed to do? I hardly think these scale representations are mocking the events, far from it.

I saw one at the IPMS Nationals which later came to be displayed at a local hobby shop of a holocaust train unloading it's human cargo. The modeler built hundreds of figures and the impact, the sorrow of the massive display was instant and gripping. I felt it should be displayed in the Dallas Holocaust museum but even then I heard people talk about damaging it or how offensive it was, I was outraged. I heard later the creator had to remove it due to the storm it caused (I cannot verify if this is accurate, merely second hand information)

In the end, if people are offended by this then too bad, they are free not to view it. On what grounds arethey claiming this is offensive? We are big boys and girls here and this is an art with strong roots to war and a story that can be told in those diorama snapshots.

I hate to be blunt, but if they find it offensive then they are welcome to not view or go someplace else. There is no tangible grounds for civil litigation. If art doesn't fall under free speech on a private site where anyone is welcome to display their effort then I suspect the person who brings the case should be prepared for a big letdown.

At worst there may be a COPPA issue regarding the age of the viewer since you have no age identification question when signing up or a database of users.
