Hello TL'ers!

Check this out:

This is not a model kit, but a 1/18 toy reproduction of a Panther Ausf. G Late with toy figures!

Here is a Tiger:

and here a M-18 Hellcat:

Amazing detail isn't it! Except for the late Tiger, even the paint job on the tanks are "correct"! If kids nowadays have access to these readily-made toys that rival models in detail, then we are really screwed! Considering that these are toys, they are probably a lot tougher than models, and can actually be pushed on the carpet for real fun.

Maybe that is why Dragon is now focusing on those Nazi action figures instead of models. Academy is producing R/C tanks with BB guns, Tamiya with their new 1/16 Tiger I with IR sensors for battles.

If this is an indication of things to come, then we have a new trend at hand, and modelling will slowly be on the decline. After all, if one can buy a facsimile of a Tiger I without the "hassle" of construction and painting, why not?

We are slowly deviating from "accuracy" to fun. With modern toy making technology, we can get pretty close to "accuracy" too!

Just my opinion. Open to discussion, bring your barrage on if you disagree!

Sincerely,
-=Yc. Wang=-
