I guess Dragon did some of what it did to make the kits cooler...more knick knacks somehow make for a better kit, at least from a marketing stand point...I think they did it just do it because they could do it...on top of the fact that a lot of times, making it 'more complicated' adds to the detail of the kit...However, most of what I have seen, with regard to Dragon's newer kits, don't really take advantage of features offered in the kits...like the workable suspension...I have yet to see anyone do use that feature from the Dragon or Tristar Pz IVs yet...there's probably a few models out there in some dio, but I haven't seen them...same for their Tigers...No one has really used the 'workable suspension' in those kits...and really, a recoiling main gun for the Tiger I is a bit...well, frivolous...it's cool, but it's frivolous...However, when you talk about "running gear", do you mean the gears that are located in the drive housings? I can understand how that seems 'frivolous', but I don't really think so...at least when it comes to a maintainance scene or something like that...

I really like all of DML kits....especially the newer ones because they are pretty fun to build :-D Personally, I would have to equate the complexity of Dragon's newer kits as being sort of close to some of their older kits (big emphasis on some), though I can see what you mean...

I thought Glenn already at least painted his Pz IV E?
